BigCommerce claims 'unlimited' number of calls/requests but in practice we do see it hit the wall because all apps share that bandwidth. Our app is pretty hungry during the initial catalog load then drops off as it works on deltas.
So far we have found that the API integration works the same regardless of the account type. The main difference is the API rate. Lower cost stores and sandbox stores will have a lower rate for updates.
If your store needs hundreds of thousands of parts but has a low API rate this can end up in a situation where the throttle prevents our system from keeping the store up to date. So I would say that if you are looking to load 100k+ products it's time to start looking at Enterprise.
